Climate Data Projections

The climate science community sources a suite of global climate models to help decision makers understand the projections of future climate change and related impacts, among the most widely used are the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project, Phase 5 (CMIP5) models included in the IPCC's Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). Climate projections can be presented via individual models or through multi-model ensembles. The Climate Change Knowledge Portal (CCKP) supports the analysis of climate impacts using multi-model ensembles, as they represent the range and distribution of the most plausible projected outcomes when representing expected changes.

Temperature

  • Hot days are projected to increase 25-75% annually by 2060 for Gabon.
  • Annual mean temperatures will increase by 1.8°C by 2040-2059, under a RCP 8.5 scenario.
  • Future projections indicate warming will occur across the country with faster rates in the inland areas of Gabon, and slower on the coastal regions.

Precipitation

  • The coastal areas of Gabon are expected to experience an increase in precipitation while the inland areas may experience decreased precipitation.
  • Precipitation is expected to increase by 33.8 mm by 2040-2059, under a RCP 8.5 scenario.
  • Rainfall variability is expected to increase with increasing intensity and frequency of heavy rainfall likely.
  • The Northeastern regions of Argentina are expected to experience an increase in precipitation while the south west may experience decreased precipitation.
