Climatology
This page presents Syrian Arab Republic's climate context for the current climatology, 1991-2020, derived from observed, historical data. Information should be used to build a strong understanding of current climate conditions in order to appreciate future climate scenarios and projected change. Observed, historical data is produced by the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) of University of East Anglia. Data is presented at a 0.5º x 0.5º (50km x 50km) resolution.
Syria experiences a largely Mediterranean climate. Summers are usually very dry with high evaporation rates. In most parts of the country, summer temperatures tend to exceed 30°C. During the winter, temperatures are moderate to cold. Temperatures are influenced and moderated by proximity to the sea and elevation. The annual average temperature is 18.1°C on the coastal plain and 15.2°C in the mountains.
