Climate Data Projections

The climate science community sources a suite of global climate models to help decision makers understand the projections of future climate change and related impacts, among the most widely used are the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project, Phase 5 (CMIP5) models included in the IPCC's Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). Key projected climate trends are summarized below:

Temperature

  • Mean annual temperature is projected to increase by 1.2-3.4°С by 2060.
  • Hot days are projected to increase by 15-29%.
  • Hot nights are projected to increase by 26-54%.

Precipitation

  • Projections of mean rainfall do not indicate large changes in annual rainfall. Seasonally, the range of projections from different models is large, but ensemble indicates decreases in September-November and increases in December-February rainfall respectively.
  • The proportion of rainfall from heavy events is expected to increase.

This section provides the options to visualize climate variables and indices derived from scientifically vetted CMIP5 projections for different timeframes, statistics, emission scenarios, and climate models.
